How to find original Santhi Sweets - Tirunelveli Halwa


Whenever you came across the name 'Tirunelveli',the first thing that comes up in your mind is the delicious "Halwa" which is very famous in this land once ruled by the the great pandyas and cholas.

Nellaiappar temple in Tirunelveli was constructed in 700AD by Pandyas. It is a temple for Lord Shiva and area of the temple is around 14 acres.The temple is well known for its renowned architecture and the Musical Pillars.

But now whenever people hear about Tirunelveli they don’t remember these AD Stories and temple. Because the history was rewritten by one and only word Halwa, which is well known by its town identity “Tirunelveli Halwa”.

When you are in tirunelveli and desperately want to taste the Halwa, the first obstacle that you will face is to find the original Halwa and the traditional shop which sells it.

How to find original Santhi Sweets - Tirunelveli

Santhi Sweets is just around 200 meters from Tirunelveli Railway station. But you have to be careful because almost all the sweet shops in that area are named as Santhi sweets. You blink ,every sweet shop in every direction bears the same name.

But I would say you can easily find that shop ,just remember "it is the shop with the crowd". All the other shop with the same name found empty where only one  stood out and crowded like anything - yes thats the original Santhi Sweets.


It is located right next to St.Mary’s Medicals. The Halwa you buy from this shop would be very hot and People there say that the Halwa from Santhi Sweets is best consumed hot immediately or at least within a week.


After purchasing Halwa from , I went to the new bus stand to catch the bus to Trivandrum. There i found almost all the sweet shops bears the same name "Santhi Sweets". I found myself lucky that I got it from the original store.lol
