Visiting VTV (Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya) Church in Alleppey ( Alapuzha)

When we decided to visit Alleppey, the 1st thing that comes in my mind is the beautiful love story of Jessi and Karthick potrayed in the Tamil movie "Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya" where some of the portions were shot in the backdrop of this lovely backwaters of Alleppey. So we decided to visit a church which played an important role in the movie.

Walkway to the Home stay

Walkway

Once we decided our destination, we preferred a calm and peaceful home stay and got one on the bank of the river Pamba. After getting down in Alleppey Railway station, we took an auto to reach Pallathuruthy Police station from where you have to either walk or you can ask the home stay persons to help you with their two wheeler to reach their home stay. But I preferred to walk and it was a good choice I made.

It was a Friday morning , a pulic holiday followed by weekends. So there were a lot tourists around especially foreigners. The walkway was so nice where i was accompanied by the great Pamba river along the side and locals doing their usual routines.
Another homestay on our way

As it was a long weekend, we can witness n number of house boats in the river where the tourists where enjoying the sunrise in the morning.

Finally we reached the home-stay. Its not a very sophisticated one but peaceful enough to enjoy your holidays. The person running the home-stay was very friendly and i can see some foreigners in the home stay as well.

After checking in ,  we took the boat in the below picture for visiting the VTV church. we were charged 700 INR per hour.

We can see many houseboats on our way , few of them cruising through the narrow canals, few of them having a pit stop in the nearby restaurants and few houseboats where people enjoying their holidays with music and dancing, so nice to witness these things on our way.

After a couple of hours in the lake, the number of houseboats wandering here and there were reduced and it seems like we were the only boat in the middle of the lake. When inquired about this, the boatman said, the tourist house boats will roam around in some particular areas only and after 5 PM in the evening those boats will be halted in a place for night stay.

In the calm river, suddenly a boat came from no where carrying many passengers and passing us. Its a passenger boat running by the Kerala State Water Transport Department (SWTD).

After four hours of travel, we almost reached the church.

We can see a bridge which connect's the pullinkunnu area to the main land which is
well connected to Alapuzzha.

Finally we reached the place and were very excited to see the church.  We witnessed the astounding St. Mary's church with Portuguese style construction.

Parked the boat alongside the river.

Inside the Church

Its a beautiful church and It was more beautiful when witnessed from the other side of the river.
This place is actually not a tourist place, so absolutely no crowd at all. There are very few shops available,so make sure you have some water bottles and snacks along with you.

After spending an hour on the church,we started back to the home stay. It took more than 4 hours to reach the place. The only disadvantage we found while visiting this place is the hot weather. It was very hot out there. This place will be mesmerizing when you visit on a rainy day.

A pit stop in the lake

On the way back , we found a pit stop and had some refreshment.

We started by 10 AM in the morning and returned around 5 pm in the evening. We enjoyed the exotic beauty of the backwaters and the church as well. The church can also be spotted in the movie "Autograph" as well.
